BOOK CLUB FOR CHILDREN

Your child doesn't read enough or you are worried about the quality of books they read and what they actually get from it? Not sure how to help them?

Look no more!

We have created a book club for children to promote reading, understanding and analysing  of the text, all crucial skills for developing  creative writing skills as well.

Learning in a small group will help your child hone social skills, respect for others, compromise and tolerance. It also helps them develop confidence in themselves and trust in other people.

Over 5 weeks course your child will

  • Read, discuss and analyse the text

  • Answer the comprehension questions

  • Learn new words and how to use them

  • Develop imagination- with 'what do you think happens next? ‘ type of questions

  • Set homework: reading passages/chapters with a piece of creative writing to complete for each session

Lessons are led in a small group of children by an experienced teacher, who is passionate about reading and has been leading the book club for two years now.

Next book for 8-10 year-olds:

‘The Witches’, Roald Dahl

There are witches EVERYWHERE. Witches could be a cashier in a supermarket, a woman driving a fancy car, or even your own teacher.

The only thing a witch cares about is squelching children. She hunts and squelches as many children as she possibly can. At least one a week.

The Grand High Witch hates children most of all and plans to make every single one of YOU disappear.

Only one boy and his grandmother can stop her. But if their plan fails, the Grand High Witch will frizzle them like fritters, and then what will happen?

Next book for 9-11 year-olds:

“The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, Douglas Adams

Arthur Dent is enjoying his ordinary Thursday lunchtime until his friend Ford Prefect plucks him from the planet just before his house gets demolished. The Earth soon follows, removed to make space for a galactic freeway. Arthur soon learns that his friend is actually an alien doing research as they hurtle through space with their towels and an innocuous-looking book titled, in large friendly letters, the words: DON’T PANIC.

Together they begin their journey through space...
